This is a very cool part of this site, as it is like a kind of "high score board" for players of Super Mario 3 Challenge. How do you rate? Can you meet the challenges? To meet these CHALLENGES, you may have to use exceptional playing skill, brain power, or both. Do so, and get your name on this page. The names are in descending order of submission date.
Starting a 1-player game from scratch, what is the highest number of points you can rack up getting to the castle at the end? To do this challenge, enter the first world, then play through all the levels to your satisfaction until you reach the castle at the end. Enter the castle, and take a snapshot by pressing the F9 key. Make sure your score is visible in the snapshot. Also, don't be a lamer and forge the snapshot, or use a save and load. You're on your honor. Your score must be 0161150 or higher. On my first try, this is what I made, so you have to be as good as or better than my first try. No sweat, right? The real challenge will be to beat the other players and my later scores. Put the snapshot in a .zip file and e-mail it in. Make sure your .zip complies with the standards set at the bottom of the page.
These stats are in descending order of score, not date submitted. There will only be 25 slots, and you may have multiple scores on there at the same time. The snapshots will not be posted in any form, they are only for me to look at. You can submit new scores as many times as you like. All of the submissions snapshots that are currently on the scoreboard, including my own, will be kept on file on my computer, so if anyone doubts my integrity that much, they can ask to see them. When a score of yours drops off the board, my file of it gets deleted.

The World 1, Level 5 CHALLENGE (Found by Mr. W):
Mr. W says: "The challenge is to go into 1-5 small and come out alive, period. What you did to that level was nasty (in a good way). I haven't done it."
There you go! That's all there is too it. To get your name on the board for this one, capture your feat in a Nesticle .NSM movie and send to to me by e-mail. I'll watch it to make sure you did it, and then put your name on the Challenge Board, including what size Mario you started as, and the movie in a zip file. Obviously, you are that much better if you can do it starting the level as small mario! Make sure your .zip complies with the standards set at the bottom of the page.

The World 2, Level 3 CHALLENGE:
There are three distinct ways to beat this level. Can you figure out and execute all three, entering the level as small mario? (There are, of course, many slight variations of my methods, but there are only 3 distinctly different ways to beat this level. I have managed to do it all three ways entering the level as small mario, so I know you can too! HINT: For two of the methods, having the raccoon tail is an absolute must.
NOTE: There are not three exits. There is one exit with an obstacle blocking it. There are 3 ways to remove/get past this obstacle.
To get your name on the board for this one, send me an E-mail telling me your name or alias, and the three distinct ways you figured out to beat this level. I'll take your word for you having actually done it on this one, but not always with the CHALLENGES!

x-4000 (Who found this CHALLENGE)
Everdred (8/7/99) Everdred pegged this neatly, and it should be noted he was the first player to figure it out! Not only that, but he was the first player to complete a Challenge!
WhooHooD'oh (8/14/99) Whoo Hoo
executed this one nicely, sending me 3 .NSMs to show me the three ways to
beat this level. He got it right! But, as this is a puzzle challenge,
unfortunately I can't post these three great .NSMs. It would give it away
to everyone else. Instead, if you want to see how he plays, check out his
.NSMs on the other challenges!
The World 3
Fortress 1
CHALLENGE:
This time the challenge is all skill. The Boss Room of this fortress is the hardest Mario has ever laid eyes on. It is beatable, but it is very, very hard. The level itself is no cream pie, either. Can you, starting the level as any size Mario, play straight through the level and beat the bosses without dying, or saving and loading?
To get your name on the board for this one, capture your feat in a Nesticle .NSM movie and send to to me by e-mail. I'll watch it to make sure you did it, and then put your name on the Challenge Board, including what size Mario you started as, and the movie in a zip file. Obviously, you are that much better if you can do it starting the level as small mario! Make sure your .zip complies with the standards set at the bottom of the page.
People To Have Done It:
t40k_ (8/7/99) The .NSM t40k_ was the first to actually complete this challenge, before even I could! Congratualtions, because you make it look soooo easy! He did it as Small Mario!
Curtis Himel (8/8/99) The .NSM Another very skillful display. Curtis enters as Fire Mario, which is easier than entering as Small Mario, but still quite hard!
(8/14/99) The .NSM Curtis, after hearing that entering as Fire Mario isn't as good as Small Mario, does it again as Small Mario, and this time he kills all three Boom Booms extremely quickly, and--get this--collects all three key orbs to leave the level! Way to go!
ROMulus (8/8/99) The .NSM The second person to complete this challenge today, ROMulus also entered as Fire Mario.
x-4000 (Who found this CHALLENGE) (8/8/99) The .NSM Well, after two more people beat this Challenge, I figured it was about time to get cracking. So, here is my .NSM of me beating this stage. I entered as Big Mario, which is better than Fire Mario, because I can't shoot the Boom Booms, but which is not nearly as good as Small Mario because I essentially get one more try. So t40k_ still stands alone at this time on this one!
Cait Sith 2 (8/14/99) The .NSM I really enjoy watching the maniacle way that Cait runs through levels. After limbering up his fingers on the map board for a moment, he rushs headlong into the level as Small Mario and just barely misses dying from a thousand different scrapes. In the end, he defeats two of the three Boom Booms, which is something because usually the last Boom Boom will kill you while your score is racking up.
WhooHooD'oh (8/14/99) The .NSM He enters as Small Mario. His comments about the feat: "I beat all three of the Boom-Booms...without touching the floor...small...and I grab all 3 ? balls when I'm through."
(8/14/99) The .NSM Entering as Small Mario, WhooHoo says: "This is the second NSM out of the four I did for the W3F1 challenge. This time around, I do a "1-2-3" pattern on the Boom-Booms. I hit them all once, let 'em fly around, hit them all once again, get into the left corner, wait for them to charge, and stomp 'em all one last time, and they blow up in perfect rhythm, from left to right. Rather cool."
(8/14/99) The .NSM He enters as Small Mario once again. He says: "This time around I use a one-on-one approach against the Boom-Booms. I don't attack one until I've killed another." My comments: This takes skill.
(8/14/99) The .NSM He enters one last time as Small Mario. He says, "I'll leave it for you to watch--I don't wanna spoil the surprise. :)" Well, in that case I won't either. This one is definitely worth watching.
The World 3, Level 6 CHALLENGE:
Once again, the challenge is a skill one. The flying cheep-cheeps in this level are murderous, and paired with the other obstacles, this can be one tough course to tackle. Can you, entering the level as small mario, and going through the level without picking up any powerups, beat this level without dying, saving, or loading? If you can, catch it in a Nesticle .NSM and send it to me by e-mail. I'll watch it to make sure you did it, and then put your .NSM and your name on the CHALLENGE Board! Make sure your .zip complies with the standards set at the bottom of the page.
People To Have Done It:
x-4000 (Who found this CHALLENGE) The .NSM
t40k_ (8/8/99) The .NSM This is t40k_'s second conquered Challenge! As of now he is still the only one to have beaten the World 3 Fortress 1 Challenge entering as Small Mario, though two others have joined him entering as Fire Mario (A slightly lesser achievement).
Everdred (8/8/99) The .NSM Entering and staying as Small Mario, Everdred deftly conquers this level! This is Everdred's second conquered Challenge, and as of now he is the only player to have gotten on the World 2, Level 3 Challenge Board!
Cait Sith 2 (8/14/99) The .NSM Cait confesses that he was a bit nervous before starting this challenge, hence the bit of "messing around" right at the start, but once he enters, he plays like a madman and makes it through on the seat of his pants. A very entetaining accomplishment to watch.
Curtis Himel (8/14/99) The .NSM Another skillful display by Curtis.
WhooHooD'oh (8/14/99) The .NSM "It features Mario being thrown by the last spinner and Mario jumping off a donut just as it's about to fall...turning it green! Oh, and he makes it through small, too. :)"
The World 4 Fortress 1 CHALLENGE (Found by WhooHooD'oh):
This is... "basically what Everdred did, with a twist. I beat only the bottom Boom-Boom in the first fortress in World 4. Small. This takes precision fighting just below the platform, since you're toast if the top one falls off...
Since W4F1 isn't on the Challenge Board, perhaps this situation might become the next Challenge... :)"
You got it, WhooHoo.... If you can do this Challenge, catch it in a Nesticle .NSM and send it to me by e-mail. I'll watch it to make sure you did it, and then put your .NSM and your name on the CHALLENGE Board! Make sure your .zip complies with the standards set at the bottom of the page.

The World 4 Fortress 2 CHALLENGE:
Can you, entering this level as Small Mario and picking up no powerups, navigate through the level and beat the two Boom Booms at the end without losing a life, or saving and loading?
If you can, make an .NSM of it and send it to me. Make sure your .zip complies with the standards set at the bottom of the page.
People To Have Done It:
Everdred (8/10/99) The .NSM The first one to do this challenge, Everdred shows great skill rushing through this level and defeating--get this--only one of the Boom Booms. As Small Mario, the remaining Boom Boom usually kills you if you try to leave the level while he is alive. So this was especially crafty on Everdred's part.
Curtis Himel (8/14/99) The .NSM Curtis too enters as Small Mario, and defeats only 1 Boom Boom. Great job!
WhooHooD'oh (8/14/99) The .NSM His comments: This is a... "version of Everdred's latest accomplishment. I beat only one of the Boom-Booms in World 4's second fortress, using the "standard" Small Mario."
More CHALLENGES to come.
Do you have an exceptional CHALLENGE for everyone
to try their hand at? If you do, send me an
e-mail detailing the challenge, the
solution, and, if neccessary, a .nsm of you completing the
CHALLENGE. I'll put you on the board as having
beaten the CHALLAENGE (Assuming you have) and
as having thought it up.
How to use and create NSMs: NSM's are very easy to use, they are just like playing and recording movies. To record an NSM, you need Nesticle. Once you have Nesticle, run it and configure it how is easiest for you, then go to the menu bar and click "CPU", then go all the way to the bottom of the pull-down menu and click "NES Movie", then click "Record." To play back a NSM, just make sure the movie is in the same directory as the game, then hit "Play" instead of "Record." It's that easy!
How to send NSMs: Put the .NSM file in a .zip file, named yourname.zip, where you put your handle or alias or whatever in the place of yourname. For example, x-4000.zip. Make absolutely sure that the filename is completely in lowercase, then send it to me by e-mail. I don't really care what you call the .NSM itself, it can be yourname.nsm or smb3c.nsm, or whatever. If you have multiple .NSMs to send, say 3, then send me 3 seperate e-mails with 3 seperate .zip files, named yourname.zip, yourname1.zip, yourname2.zip. Thanks for doing this. I've been getting an increasing number of submissions lately, and this will really speed the process.
